What is a new potato?

The end of winter heralds the arrival of new potatoes  

Most of us love the fantastic taste and texture – there is something absolutely special about them! However over the years all sorts of potatoes have found their way into ‘new’ potato bags! Not any more!!
After years of consumer confusion about what constitutes a new potato, and after extensive industry- wide consultation, potatoes New Zealand has defined
a new potato as “a young potato characterised by soft skin, so delicate it can be easily flicked off with your fingers”. If you cannot flick off the skin, then the potato you have is NOT a new potato
